EC2 Cloud Cost Optimization: Why Doing Everything Right Still Is Not Enough

For many teams, Amazon EC2 represents the single largest and most persistent line item on the AWS bill.

What makes this especially frustrating is that EC2 spend often continues to rise even after teams have followed every best practice they were advised to implement. Instances are right-sized. Idle resources are removed. Auto scaling behaves as expected. Development and test environments are scheduled appropriately.

From an operational perspective, the environment appears well managed.
